My name is Doug. I have a training and competition business by the name of DPEquestrian LLC located in Pottersville, NJ. I live just 10 mins from the facility in the center of Gladstone, NJ where the USET is based. I grew up fully entrenched in the equestrian sporting world. All of my family members ride. My mother, Marilyn, is best known as an international judge. She has an impressive resume which notably includes the 2008 Olympic Games in China, and the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky. She has judged virtually every other 3 and 4 star competition in the world. My Dad, Dick, rides once annually at our Christmas Gymkanah. He always is a fierce competitor, and routinely holds his own among stiff competition. He is also heavily involved in vintage car racing. My sister, Holly, is also an advanced eventer, who also runs a business out of Gladstone. I never expected to be competing and training for a living during my years in school. I have a degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. I fully intended to be a forensic engineer recreating and analyzing accidents. Upon graduation, while waiting to join the NJ State Police, I figured I should take the chance at the Equestrian world. I knew later in life I'd regret not trying. I haven't looked back nor regretted it yet, from 2005 on I've been full bore. I'm a very driven competitor. I've built a very successful business from the ground up. I have a particular distaste for losing. For the past 5 years I've been systemically planning to break into the international scene and be a consistent player who ideally has a horse ready for every team championship for the next two decades. I have been trying to purchase or partner with owners on a 4 or 5 year old each year. The oldest in the group at the moment is Running Order owned by Patti Springsteen. He has a very impressive record, most recently placing 3rd at the Jersey Fresh CCI***, 6th at the Fair Hill CCI*** and 18th at the Rolex CCI****. We have one legitimate prospect every year down to 4 at the moment. Along with the potential top horses we have another 10 horses at the farm who are in training or competition at various stages. Much more detail is on my website. In order to gain a competitive advantage I've sought out nearly every educational opportunity. I have a USEF judges and TD's license. I am a USEA certified instructor. I've competed in straight dressage through Intermediare, and straight jumping through Grand Prix both on horses I produced from the early stages of breaking. I have been a member of the USEF Developing Rider's list for a few years now. I was a member of the 2010 Developing Rider's tour to Boekelo CCI*** in Holland where our team finished 2nd in the Nations Cup competition.
