EXPERIENCE EVENTING AS AN OWNER

ABOUT

I have been eventing since I was ten years of age and riding since I was four. I started in hunter/jumpers with a local trainer by the name of Judy McHerron. I never took a serious interest in hunter/jumpers so I tried my hand elsewhere. Until I started to specialize in eventing in 2010, I participated in other equine sports such as endurance riding, barrel racing, and french classical dressage. My education in these other disciplines is one I value greatly today.

It wasn’t until 2012 that my parents and I were introduced to Yves Sauvignon, a well renowned event coach on the West Coast. With Yves’ guidance, I have navigated my way through the levels and through the sport. Coming from a “non-horsey” family, the beginning of my career was not the most straightforward simply because of lack of knowledge, but it is because of those early experiences that I am the rider I am today. Because of the level I am competing at as of now and the seriousness with which I treat my sport, I attend Stanford Online High School to allow for significant flexibility in my training and competition schedule while also maintaining my education.

A recent accomplishment of mine was being accepted into the American Horse Trials Foundation. It is a company which supports riders financially by giving them tax deductions on the running costs of keeping a horse. To be accepted, I needed to successfully compete at the CCI* level and obtain a certain number of letters of recommendation. My most significant accomplishment as a rider to date was being the first recipient of the Seema Sonnad Junior Rider’s Grant of $5,000. This was based on my performance at the CCI* level. I was selected among a nation-wide pool of young riders to apply and out of the carefully selected group of candidates, I won the grant. This grant has helped cover showing costs and training costs leading up to the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships in Colorado. I will also make an appearance in the US Eventing Association magazine at the end of 2016. I am also currently sponsored by one company: Everyday Eventing. Everyday Eventing is a social media company which promotes the experiences of top riders at various competitions or even completing small tasks such as braiding. It is a hub for knowledge in the eventing world. I am excited to help this company develop in order to educate up and coming riders.

I now train with Matt Brown, a national high performance rider and reserve Olympic rider, in Cochranville, PA at Boyd Martin's facility. The opportunity to train on the East Coast with one of the USA's best has been unparalleled. Q and I are currently competing at the CIC** level.
